I've been thinking about what Directors carry into each day
Mar 24, 2026
Every morning, early childhood directors put their armour on.
Armour for the decisions that affect children's safety.
Armour for the responsibility of meeting standards that protect lives.
Armour for holding families 'trust and teams" wellbeing at the same time.
Armour for the conversations that can't be avoided.
Armour for the days when there is no margin for error.
Armour for carrying the weight of a service, quietly, professionally, without applause.
This role asks for strength.
Consistency.
Accountability.
And underneath all of that armour...
is a human.
A human who cares deeply.
A human who reflects constantly.
A human who feels the weight,
even when they don't show it.
Leadership in early childhood isn't about being unbreakable.
It's about being human, while holding what matters most.
