Gardening & Nature

At platinum Education one of our daily experiences is caring for our garden. We water, weed and harvest all of our fruit, vegetables and herbs. We love being part of the process of observing the natural world, investigating scientific concepts, and being responsible for living things. The children learn where food comes from and that gardening is both hard work, fun and rewarding. Research indicates that children who have a love of nature, find it much easier to build relationships with others as they are able to be become naturally more empathetic.

Cooking

One of my favourite memories when growing up is cooking with my mum (I’m sure I’m not alone), I learnt so much in the kitchen that I have taken with me and have used for the rest of my life. At Platinum Education the children are involved in the cooking of our meals each day, we gather the vegetables, fruit and herbs from our garden to utilise within our cooking and follow recipes and simple processes. Research has shown when children are involved in the process of cooking and preparation they are more likely to eat and try new foods. This is a time where we come together to learn new life long knowledge and skills.

Yoga and Relaxation

At Platinum Education we are strong believers in children’s overall health and wellbeing. We have such a big day learning new knowledge and skills, it is important to have a pause from the day to slow down and give our brains a rest. During this time we conduct yoga. Yoga is a great for building concentration, confidence and self esteem, increases strength and flexibility, develops discipline and control and increases coordination and balance. This is a great life long skill that creates a balance between a child’s mind and body.

Science and Investigation

At Platinum Education, we encourage our children to draw on their natural curiousity be being inquisitive and ask questions, on an average day a pre-schooler can ask approximately 600 questions. From these questions, we use scientific methods of enquiry to research and conduct tests to discover the answers. Promoting an environment that caters to scientific thinking encourages children to use critical thinking and have a sense of wonder which assists children to understand the world around them.

Program and Curriculum

"Tell me and I will forget, teach me and I may remember, Involve me and I will learn."
- Benjamin Franklin

Platinum Education implements the Australian Early Years Learning Framework (EYLF) which was developed by industry professionals through government initiatives.

The EYLF provides solid theory, principles and strategies for how children best learn and develop.

Our curriculum gives all children the time to learn through play in a loving, friendly and fun environment.

Children are given the attention they deserve, have all their needs catered for, are treated with respect, given space to learn and develop and of course the opportunity to make magic happen each day.

Platinum Education has a unique approach to early learning and covers the following every day to ensure our children have a successful transition to school as well as in life:

Music and Dance

Music is an essential ingredient in Platinum Education, it is one of the only domains that engages the children’s overall development both physically and mentally. Music and Dance benefits our children by improving cognition, self-esteem, physical coordination and critical thinking skills to solving problems, recognising emotions and understanding relationships. Music and Dance is a vehicle through which children can engage with their peers, adults and the environment and helps to improve attention span, mental activity and spurs their creativity. The long term effects and benefits of music on the lives of our children is profound.

Creative Arts and Imagination

Research indicates that a child who is exposed to the arts acquires a special ability to think creatively, be original, discover, innovate, and create intellectual property – key attributes for individual success and more social prosperity in the twenty-first century. At Platinum Education our children have specialised areas within the environment for the creative arts and are free to access these materials to apply their imaginations and express their creativity. This area promotes opportunities for collaboration, negotiation and problem solving.

Physical Activity

Physical activity for children includes both structured activities and unstructured free play, and can be done indoors or out. As children explore they find increasing ways to utilise their large and small muscles which allows them to gain increasing control over their bodies. Active play is a great opportunity for social interactions and to build on and experiment with their bodies limits. Being physically active every day is important for the health and wellbeing of children. By teaching children these habits early on it will benefit them for the rest of their lives.
